Rise Again Animal Rescue said Mark Motta was on his recycling route with the Burlington County Regional Recycling Program when he found the female kitten covered in oil in his waste compactor. The Hammonton nonprofit posted about the kitten now named Squishy on Facebook on Thursday, July 18.
The rescue said it's unclear how Squishy ended up in a recycling bin.
"Mark acted quickly and grabbed Squishy before she was crushed by the compactor blades," the post read. "The company safety officer brought her to the vet and has been fostering her ever since."
Rise Again's website said its mission is to help vulnerable and abandoned animals.
"Rise Again Animal Rescue was started by four like-minded individuals who saw the same need in the animal rescue world: to advocate for those most at risk for euthanasia and premature death — neonate kittens and medically complex animals," the website said. "Our commitment is to always put animals’ needs first."
The rescue also said Squishy is "doing well after her adventures" and was able to meet Motta after he saved her.
